Arne Jacobsen inspired lamps - for your table or floor

A play of light and shadow

Throughout much of history, lighting was seen either as a luxury, or as something that is purely functional. Regardless of that, it would seem that up until the 1950s, no one paid too much attention to fine tuning the lighting fixtures. From too bright to too dim and very impractical, it would seem that most lamps were designed without too much effort or thought put into progress. Then it all changed.

Mid-century period was an era that changed applied design forever. It was a period when a new generation of Scandinavian designers and architects used their skills to design iconic pieces that retained their global popularity to this day. And when it comes to lighting, one has to mention the man who was at the forefront of innovation in the field – Arne Jacobsen.

Arne Jacobsen and the lighting revolution

As a very creative and productive designer, Arne Jacobsen designed countless floor and table lamps that are known to the modern design enthusiasts as AJ lamps. These models are easily recognizable by their well-balanced and properly directed light that, above all, retained its functional qualities. In this manner, Arne Jacobsen did for lighting design what his Scandinavian contemporaries did for furniture design.

AJ table lamps, for example, incorporate both stable and steady base and a carefully thought out shade that directs the light on the surface where it is needed, without needless refraction and diffusion. These qualities are perfectly matched by AJ floor lamps which aim to achieve exactly this, but in a larger scale, applied to the room as a whole. Both collections retain functionality as their central quality without compromising their stylish elegance and sculptural appearance.

The secret of AJ lamps

All AJ lamps feature sleek and simple, yet undoubtedly elegant and modern look. And this is what inspired us to create our own collection of Bespoek floor and table lamps. After months of research into Arne Jacobsen’s fundamental design principles, our team of young, talented and energetic designers translated those same qualities into original designs, made specifically to fulfil the needs of the modern customer.

Inspired by AJ floor lamps that masterfully blend functionality and style, we aimed to do the same. On one hand, we paid special attention to material selection and processing in order to eliminate any unnecessary refraction and create a precisely directed yet soft light. On the other hand, we knew that if we wanted to stay true to Arne Jacobsen’s design principles, we need to invest just as much thinking into the look of the lamp itself.

After Arne Jacobsen: Lighting solutions for the 21st century

When it comes to the design of our floor and table lamps, we followed the example set by AJ table lamps – using very simple, yet elegant lines with a stable sold base. The end result is a lamp that is almost minimalist in style and look. Available in multiple simple colours, Bespoek lamps can easily fit in your home or office, regardless of the specific style you chose for your interior design.

As opposed to original AJ lamps, our collection features somewhat wider bases for extra stability. In addition to this, the upper part of the lamp has also been modified to take up less space than the original without compromising the functionality of the lamp. Our goal was to create worthy successors to the original AJ floor and table lamps that will offer greater stability and flexibility in terms of functionality, but also somewhat more minimalistic look that can perfectly match the contemporary approaches to interior design.
